I remember my sister standing in front of my fathers dead body. She just looked, she didnt cry, she didnt say anything she just fell and hit her head on the ground. For two years after that, she didnt cry, she didnt speak, she just kept looking in the space; it just changed her world. By Gods grace she is better now, she has got some deficiencies, Khan said.
The actor recalled that she was not keeping well during the filming of his romantic drama Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in the mids, with doctors cautioning that she wont be able to survive. Because he was shooting for the Adity Chopra film in Switzerland, he got her treated there she survived, but hasnt recovered yet.

During the making of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, she again was hospitalised and they (the doctors) said she will not survive. I took her to Switzerland, got her treated there while I was shooting Tujhe Dekha Toh Ye Jana Sanam. But she hasnt ever recovered, from the loss of her father, the suddenness of him passing away. Then it got compounded with my mother passing away ten years later. So we are, what in Muslims is called, Yatim and Yasir, which means father and mother less.
Khan said his sister was highly qualified, having also done MA LLB, but struggled to face the reality of losing her parents. His own defense mechanism, Khan said, was to develop a sense of detachment, false bravado, which people associate with him.
When I see her, especially the time period from my fathers death and mothers death, she was highly qualified, had done MA LLB, very intelligent, like my parents wanted her to be. But she could not face the reality of losing her parents and I somehow, developed this sense of detachment, false bravado, which I show in public, a sense of humour, a lot of things which I do which people think is flamboyant and very Bollywood is to cover up, he added.
