Biography of Kseniya Simonova

Early Life and Education

Kseniya Simonova is a Ukrainian artist, graphic designer, animator, and master of sand animation. She was born on April 22, 1985, in Yevpatoria, Crimea. Her mother, Irina Vladimirovna Simonova, is an artist, fashion designer, and drawing teacher, while her father, Alexander Nikolaevich Simonov, is a military officer. Kseniya completed her education at the Volkov Art School in Yevpatoria and then attended the Evpatoria Children's Art School, where she studied under the guidance of I.V. Simonova. After graduating from the No. 8 comprehensive school in Yevpatoria, where she specialized in English language studies, she initially planned to become a translator. However, she decided to pursue her passion for art and enrolled in the psychology faculty of the Vernadsky Taurida National University in Simferopol, where she graduated with a red diploma in psychophysiology in 2007. During her studies, she also pursued a distance learning program in graphics at the Kiev Institute of Industrial Art and Design, completing her training in 2008.

Artistic Career

Illustrator


In 2006, Kseniya Simonova was invited to work as an illustrator for the magazine "Crimean Riviera." There, she showcased her work for the first time in her unique style called "Psychoanalytical Linear Graphics." The publishing house "Crimean Riviera" later asked Kseniya to illustrate sections of other publications. In 2007, Simonova and her husband, Igor Paskar, founded their own project, a bilingual glossy magazine called "Shokolad," where Kseniya worked as an art director, illustrator, and translator. However, due to the economic crisis, the magazine had to close in 2008.

Sand Animation: Ukraine’s Got Talent


Kseniya Simonova began practicing sand animation in late 2008, considering it just a hobby. In early 2009, she accidentally learned about the casting for the first season of the show "Ukraine’s Got Talent" and decided to participate. She presented her first work, "Circus," to the jury and made it to the semifinals. In the semifinals, she showcased her sand story "You Are Always Nearby," which brought her worldwide fame. This eight-minute story about the Great Patriotic War, also known as "Requiem from Sand," became an internet sensation, receiving over 2 million views on YouTube within 24 hours, according to The Guardian. Simonova advanced to the finals of "Ukraine’s Got Talent" and performed the sand story "Don't Be Late," a tribute to her parents. On June 26, 2009, Kseniya Simonova won the show, becoming the winner of "Ukraine’s Got Talent" and receiving a prize of one million hryvnias.

International Success


Since 2009, Kseniya has been introducing her art to audiences in over 40 countries worldwide. She has performed in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Sydney Opera House. Simonova has also been a special guest at significant ceremonies, including the closing ceremony of the Special Olympics in Athens in 2011 and the YouTube Symphony Orchestra gala concert at the Sydney Opera House. She has performed in the presence of world leaders such as President George Abela of Malta, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, Princess Marie of Denmark, Countess of Monpezat, Princess Lalla Hasna of Morocco, members of the Windsor Royal Family, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan, and many others. From 2009 to 2014, Kseniya created and presented over 300 sand animations, with more than 200 of them available on YouTube.

America’s Got Talent: The Champions


In 2019, Kseniya Simonova participated in the most significant talent show in the world, "America’s Got Talent: The Champions," on NBC. This show brings together winners from all seasons of the "Got Talent" franchise worldwide. Simonova earned a place in the show's finale by receiving the Golden Buzzer from the show's host, Terry Crews. Her performance received high praise from the judges. On February 18, 2019, Kseniya Simonova finished in third place on the show. Her performance reached 6 million viewers on Facebook within 24 hours and achieved 100 million views on YouTube within six months.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions


Since August 2019, Kseniya Simonova has been participating in the British version of the "Got Talent" franchise, "Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions," airing on ITV. In the first episode, which aired on August 31, Simonova received the Golden Buzzer from judge Amanda Holden, granting her automatic entry into the show's finale, held on October 5.

Interests

At the age of 11, Kseniya Simonova learned about the execution of Nicholas II and the Russian Imperial Family. Since then, she has been studying the history of the Russian Empire, particularly the Romanov Dynasty. Based on her research and personal experiences, she created the sand story "Love is Stronger. In Memory of Nicholas II" in 2011.
