Dariga devoted the next few years to work in the media: the daughter of Nursultan Nazarbayev headed the organization "Television and Radio of Kazakhstan", and was also the director of a news agency called "Khabar" (until 1998). In November 2017, a photo of the woman again appeared on the front pages of news publications: she was elected chairman of the council in the field of activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This was reported by representatives of the press service of the department. The politician replaced Byrganym Aitimova, who previously held this responsible post.

Dariga Nazarbayeva devoted her first speech at the council meeting to the problems of the department, stressing that her primary task was to ensure direct communication and cooperation between the state authorities and society. In her new position, Dariga oversaw the implementation of the One Belt, One Road program, which represents more than 50 Kazakh-Chinese investment projects totaling more than $ 27.4 billion.

Dariga has an independent political will, which she often demonstrates in her speeches.
